TotalAV antivirus and security software

Advertisement · Affiliate links

This is a paid advertisement, not editorial content and not a review. axiomdigital.online is an independent advertiser and has no connection to TotalAV or its developer. If you click through and buy, we receive a commission from the advertiser at no additional cost to you — that commission is how this page is funded, and it gives us a financial interest in your purchase. The descriptions below are the vendor's own published claims, which we have not independently verified. Always check the current price, subscription length and renewal terms on the vendor's own site before you buy.

What TotalAV is

TotalAV is a commercial consumer security product that bundles antivirus scanning with a set of maintenance and privacy tools. It is sold as a paid annual subscription, with a limited free tier, and runs on Windows, macOS, Android and iOS. It competes with products such as Norton, Bitdefender, Avast and the protection already built into Windows.

Whether you need a paid product at all depends on your situation. Windows ships with Microsoft Defender, which is included at no cost and performs respectably in independent testing. Paid suites generally compete on the extra features wrapped around the scanner — VPN access, password management, cross-platform coverage from one subscription, and customer support — rather than on detection alone. That trade-off is worth weighing before you spend anything.

Features the vendor lists

The following are features TotalAV advertises for its paid tiers. These are the vendor's descriptions of its own product, reproduced here so you know what is being offered; we have not tested them:

  • Real-time antivirus and malware scanning
  • Removal of adware, potentially unwanted programs and browser hijackers
  • A system optimisation tool for startup items, junk files and disk cleanup
  • A bundled VPN and browser privacy tools, depending on the tier purchased
  • Password management and data-breach monitoring, depending on the tier purchased
  • Coverage for multiple devices across Windows, macOS, Android and iOS from a single account

Exactly which of these are included depends on the plan. Feature lists and tier names change over time, so check the vendor's current plan comparison before purchasing.

Independent testing

We have not run our own tests, and you should not take an advertisement's word on detection rates. If you want evidence rather than marketing copy, the recognised independent labs publish free, methodologically documented results for consumer antivirus products:

  • AV-TEST — protection, performance and usability scores by product and platform
  • AV-Comparatives — real-world protection and false-positive testing

Coverage of any given product varies between test rounds, and a product is not always submitted for testing. If a vendor's results are not listed for a recent round, that absence is itself worth noting.

Pricing and terms

Following the link on this page applies a 50% discount to your first month only. This is a monthly discount, not a discount on a year of service: after that first month the subscription continues at TotalAV's standard rate until you cancel it.

We are not quoting figures here because TotalAV sets and changes its own pricing, and the rate depends on the plan and region you select. The number that matters for what you actually spend is the standard rate from month two onward, not the discounted first month — check both on the vendor's checkout page, along with the cancellation procedure and refund policy, before you pay.

How to evaluate it yourself

  1. 1

    Check what you already have

On Windows, open Windows Security and see whether Microsoft Defender is already active. If it is, you are not unprotected, and any paid product is an upgrade decision rather than an emergency.

  2. 2

    Look up current lab results

Check the product's most recent scores at AV-TEST and AV-Comparatives, and compare them against the alternatives rather than reading them in isolation.

  3. 3

Read the renewal terms before paying

Confirm the term length, what the subscription renews at, how to cancel, and the refund window. In the EU you generally have a 14-day right of withdrawal on distance contracts, though this can be affected once digital content has been downloaded with your express consent.

  4. 4

Buy from the vendor, not from a third party

Complete the purchase on the vendor's own site so that support, licensing and refunds are handled directly by them.
